What it is
Skaala is an AI receptionist and business phone system for small businesses that answers inbound calls around the clock on your own or an included local number. It books, reschedules, qualifies leads, transfers urgent callers by your rules, and documents each call.
Watch out
- The only free way onto a real phone line is a 7-day trial that requires a card at signup; there is no standing $0 plan. The free Playground is a browser voice simulator the vendor says has no ringing phone number, no booking in your real calendar and no CRM, so unpaid use cannot answer a single customer call past day 7.
- Skaala states it holds no HIPAA attestation today and is not Helsenormen-certified or connected to Norsk Helsenett, and tells healthcare providers to run their own risk assessment before the AI handles journal data. No plan or add-on is offered that changes this; dental and medical callers are covered only by a GDPR data processing agreement signed at onboarding.

- Past your allowance
Yes
Calls keep being answered past the allowance; extra minutes are billed at a published per-minute rate and the vendor warns you as the limit approaches.
Their words
Minutes beyond your allowance are charged at a fixed per-minute rate (for example $0.20 on Essential and $0.06 on Business in the US, excl. tax).
skaala.aiPricing FAQ, 'What happens if I exceed my minutes?'
- Spam calls not billed
Partly
The AI answers first and screens callers by intent instead of blocking numbers, but the vendor states plainly it is not a carrier spam blocker and never says screened calls skip your minute allowance.
Their words
Skaala is not a carrier-level spam blocker; it is a call-handling layer that helps you avoid noise without missing real customers.
